Unique Jungle Hotel in Costa Rica: Cascada Elysiana

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

Take yourself to the most peaceful place in the jungle. I had the honor of working for Cascada Elysiana, a unique jungle hotel in Costa Rica.

This small boutique hotel and waterfall is, as the address says, 500 km SW of Plantanillo. Where is the world is that? The middle of nowhere. But, the middle of nowhere is the most incredible place to connect with nature, connect with God, to spend sometime with yourself, and to meet some other adventure seekers from around the world.

On property, they have over 50 types of edible plants, a 200 foot waterfall, 4 private cabinas, a yoga/workout deck, and the cutest dog, Copito.

They serve delicious vegetarian and vegan meals. The best part about the food is that you don't know what you will eat until it is put in front of you! A beautiful and delicious surprise. Breakfast is always included, and dinner is about 6000 colones per plate.

Do keep in mind that they do not serve lunch, but there is a small soda about a 10 minute walk from property, called Boli Monchi, that is open Wed-Sun from 11am-8pm.

Let's touch back on that waterfall! This is the most breathtaking waterfall I've ever seen, and not many people know about it. It's almost private, and if you're lucky, you will get the whole thing to yourself! You might also be able to get a volunteer to take you to the top which is a whole other adventure! (Please make sure you have sneakers for the hike to the top of the waterfall. That adventure is hard work, but completely worth it!)

There are also small pools in the river where you can just sit and relax.

The beach, Dominical, is about 30 minutes away. It is the cutest little surf village.

Someone should visit Cascada Elysiana for no less that 2 nights. But, to really take it all in, 5 nights would be perfect.

The best part about all of this is that staying here is super affordable! A glamping tent is on $45/night during the week and $55/night on weekends! If sleeping in the jungle is not your cup of tea, you can still go visit the waterfall for only 4000 colones.

I am so grateful for the time I was able to spend at Cascada Elysiana, the people I met, and the skills I gained.

How to get there: I'm explaining this being many people got lost while I was working there.

It is about 4 hours from San Jose, and only 30 minutes from Domical (the Pacific shore). DO NOT use Waze. Only use Google Maps and also keep in mind the directions just to make sure you see the right signs. Yes, you can get there with a regular car, you do not have to have 4-wheel drive.

-You will see Tavaco's Mechanic shop on either the right or left depending on which way you are coming. There is also a bus stop there.

-Turn onto the uphill gravel road. If it is dirt, or becomes dirt, it is not the right road.

-Drive straight for about 15 minutes.

-It will be on the left with a big wooden sign that says "Cascada Elysiana"

-Turn left as soon as you pull in the drive.

-There are 2 parking lots, the first is for 2 wheel drive cars. Park there and walk. Do not try to keep going. Warning: there is a very steep hill to climb, pack light, but you can also call reception for help. If you have a 4x4 car, keep going and you can park next to reception.
